The Region

Ouranoupoli, the small atmospheric town which seperates Mount Athos with the cosmics, living in the aura of the particular and the traditional beauty. Captivating its guests, they become integral part of it year by year. In the settlement, a beautiful story is being revealed in its Byzantine Tower  with great exhibits and a rare weavings; collection, precious objects from Loch family, who inhabited the Tower until 1982.

Under the tower, the port, from which ships depart to transfer pilgrims and monks to Mount Athos, and tourists who take the cruise around the Holy Peninsula. Some meters away, the guests may visit Moni Zigou, an ancient monastery, located right on the borders to Mount Athos, visitable also from women. 

Its interior and parts, through mosaics and exhibits depict the daily life of a monastery. Right across from Ouranoupoli, a small complex of exotic isles, ideal for swimming, fishing and diving in turquoise waters, when right next to them floats the island of Ammouliani, the unique inhabited island of Halkidiki. 

Traditional houses, small tavernas and majestic beaches make Ammouliani the landmark of the whole region. 
In the surroundings of Mount Athos Area we do recommend a visit to Ancient Stageira, the birth land of Greek philosopher Aristoteles, the colorful and traditional village of Arnaa with its museums and the Metropolitan Church of Saint Stephan, the interactive Park of Aristoteles to Stageira, and lots of others spots which you will discover during your stay at Hotel Theopisti.
